Founder and Method

About the Founder:  A Lifetime of Service, Study, Pressure, Practice, and Purpose

40 Years. 5 Countries. 1000s of Students.  One Mission.

“I started this journey because I was the kid who was bullied.  I know what it feels like to feel powerless.”

That experience didn’t just spark an interest in martial arts, it created a lifelong pursuit to understand one question:

Why do some people shut down under stress, while others stay in control?

Michael Hanson, the founder of Elite Edge Training, is a retired military veteran and Master Fitness Trainer who has spent over four decades studying human performance under stress.  His work has taken him across multiple countries, training military personnel, law enforcement, athletes, and individuals facing personal challenges.

But the mission was never just about training fighters.

It was about helping people regain control of themselves.

From Combat Systems to Human Performance

During his military career, Sensei Hanson worked within the Modern Army Combatives Program while continuing his study of traditional martial arts and physical training systems.

Over time, a pattern became clear:

The most effective systems, whether ancient or modern, shared a common thread.

They trained the nervous system!

Through years of hands-on experience, mentorship, and study, including time working alongside leaders in combatives and performance training, Sensei Hanson refined an approach that connects:

  • Physical movement
  • Mental control
  • Emotional regulation

into one system.

This became the foundation for Elite Edge Training.

The Elite Edge Training Method

At its core, the method is simple:

Train the body and mind to stay functional under pressure.

When stress hits, most people experience:

  • Panic
  • Hesitation
  • Emotional reactivity
  • Loss of clear thinking

This isn’t a lack of skill, it’s a nervous system response.

Our training focuses on bridging the gap between:

  • Reaction and Self-Control
  • Fear and Function
  • Overwhelm and Clarity

How the Method Works

Regulate the Nervous System   We teach you how to recognize and manage stress responses in real time, so you don’t freeze, panic, or overreact.

Train Under Realistic Pressure   Techniques are practiced in a way that builds composure, not just repetition.  You learn to stay functional when it matters.

Build Adaptive Movement   Every body is different.  Whether you are an athlete, a beginner, or navigating a physical limitation, training is adapted to you.

Develop Repeatable Habits   We focus on discipline that carries over into daily life such as decision-making, emotional control, and consistency.

Built for the Underdog, Proven for Everyone

While Mr Hanson has trained elite performers, the heart of Elite Edge Training is rooted in something deeper:

“We are all underdogs at some point in our lives.”

That includes:

  • The child struggling with confidence
  • The individual navigating a disability
  • The professional under constant pressure
  • The person rebuilding after trauma

This method exists to meet people where they are and to help them move forward.

More Than Training.  It’s a Standard.

Elite Edge Training is not built on hype or quick results.  It’s built on consistency, accountability, and depth.

One-on-One Coaching   Personalized progression based on your goals and pace

Supportive Culture   A community that challenges and supports each other

Depth of Knowledge   Integration of movement, psychology, and real-world application

Lifelong Progression   There is always the next level

The Mission Going Forward
